From the project

A high-performance low-cost open-source ESP32-S3-based BLDC motor controller for Field-Oriented Control (FOC).

This repository contains the KiCad hardware design, manufacturing files and support documents for the CAN-HBC S3, a high-power BLDC motor controller for robotics and actuators.

The board is: - Inspired by the Victor Brushless Controller (VBC), the earlier Dagor Brushless Controller, and the ODrive S1 power stage and thermal concept. - Intended to run SimpleFOC firmware on an ESP32-S3. - Optimized for JLCPCB assembly (LCSC parts, CPL, Gerbers included).

CAN-HBC-S3 design files

The KiCad project lives in the ViktorNfa/CAN-HBC-S3 repository on GitHub; these links point at the commit this page was built from.

CAN-HBC-S3: common questions

What microcontroller does the CAN-HBC-S3 use?

The CAN-HBC-S3 is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N8, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the CAN-HBC-S3 PCB?

The CAN-HBC-S3 measures 70 × 50 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the CAN-HBC-S3?

160 components, from 63 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the CAN-HBC-S3 design files?

From the ViktorNfa/CAN-HBC-S3 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the CAN-HBC-S3 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with ViktorNfa. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the CAN-HBC-S3 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
