About the Debugging Front Panel PCB

Debugging Front Panel is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by alexiosc, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 280 × 164.6 mm, with 165 components from 34 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega64-16AU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 74LVC1G04, 74HC139, 74LVC1G07, 74AC573 and 74HC590. By type, the board carries 80 capacitors, 59 ICs, 16 resistors, 4 diodes, 2 crystals and 2 connectors.

It belongs with the usb & debug tools designs in this gallery.

From the project

The CFT homebrew minicomputer

The CFT is a home-designed, home-built mini-computer made from scratch.

I've designed and built the instruction set, data path, processor, computer, software stack, cross-assembler, emulator, software toolchain and even some of the tools needed to do all this. You can call this a ‘fantasy mini’.

This project has been going since approximately 2001, in my Copious Free Time.

Debugging Front Panel: common questions

What microcontroller does the Debugging Front Panel use?

The Debugging Front Panel is built around the ATmega64-16AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Debugging Front Panel PCB?

The Debugging Front Panel measures 280 × 164.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Debugging Front Panel?

165 components, from 34 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Debugging Front Panel design files?

From the alexiosc/cft repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Debugging Front Panel design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which alexiosc chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Debugging Front Panel without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
