The Spectre-Sniffer is a portable, handheld electromagnetic (EM) side-channel analysis and Tempest surveillance platform designed for security researchers, hardware penetration testers, and red team operators. It captures and processes unintentional electromagnetic emissions from electronic devices to extract sensitive information — including cryptographic keys, display content, keystroke timing, and processor activity — without any physical or electrical contact with the target.

Spectre-Sniffer: common questions

What microcontroller does the Spectre-Sniffer use?

The Spectre-Sniffer is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Spectre-Sniffer PCB?

The Spectre-Sniffer measures 80 × 320 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Spectre-Sniffer?

23 components, from 22 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Spectre-Sniffer design files?

From the jayis1/hacker-devices repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Spectre-Sniffer design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with jayis1. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Spectre-Sniffer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
