From the project
Hardware source and production files to recreate Kabot robot in physical world
Kabot is an open-source, compact educational mobile robot. This repository contains its mechanical, electronic, and hardware production files.
The hardware was designed entirely with free and open-source software (FOSS):
- FreeCAD 1.1.1 for the mechanical design - KiCad 10.0.4 for the electronic design
Using these versions is recommended for the best compatibility with the source files.

Kabot: common questions
What microcontroller does the Kabot use?
The Kabot is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family.
How big is the Kabot PCB?
The Kabot measures 89 × 92.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Kabot?
137 components, from 34 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Kabot design files?
From the kabot-io/kabot-hardware repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Kabot design in my own project?
It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.
Can I test firmware for the Kabot without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
