About the Z80DMA2 PCB

Z80DMA2 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by lynchaj, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 100 mm, with 59 components from 30 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATtiny13-20PU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 74LS08, 74LS244, 74LS688, 74LS32 and 74LS04. By type, the board carries 17 capacitors, 16 ICs, 15 resistors, 4 diodes, 3 connectors and 2 relays.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

Modular Backplane Computer

Flash File System support -- requires 39SF040 Flash ROMs

Note: The Z80 DMA V2 board has not yet gone to PCB production however the differences between it and the Z80 DMA V1 board are very minor.

K2 Interrupt Selection, connect 1-2 for INT#, connect 2-3 for NMI#, default is none Note: pin 2 can be connected to Z80 Processor IM2 connector via flying lead

K1 is external DMA connector. Default is 2-3 closed, otherwise connected to DMA capable IO board

Z80DMA2: common questions

What microcontroller does the Z80DMA2 use?

The Z80DMA2 is built around the ATtiny13-20PU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Z80DMA2 PCB?

The Z80DMA2 measures 100 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Z80DMA2?

59 components, from 30 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Z80DMA2 design files?

From the lynchaj/nhyodyne repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Z80DMA2 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with lynchaj. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Z80DMA2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
