About the GLARE PCB

GLARE is an open source ESP32 PCB design by RR-CREATOR, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 102.4 × 27.5 mm, with 86 components from 35 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1U-N16R8, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the L86-M33, ICM-20948, CH9102F, AP5054HTC and XC61CC3002MR. By type, the board carries 31 resistors, 29 capacitors, 9 ICs, 6 transistors, 4 diodes and 2 switches.

It belongs with the displays & leds and power & battery designs in this gallery.

The pcb also has a micro usb b port which is used to charge the LiPo batteries and is also used for programming the esp 32 module on the board.

It also has a battery gauge, and a power on/off button, along with a low power isolation.

It also has a 5V boost and a 5V to 3.3V LDO to power esp and other peripherals.

It also has a usb to uart module to programme this esp 32.

GLARE: common questions

What microcontroller does the GLARE use?

The GLARE is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1U-N16R8, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the GLARE PCB?

The GLARE measures 102.4 × 27.5 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.2 mm thick.

How many components are on the GLARE?

86 components, from 35 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the GLARE design files?

From the RR-CREATOR/GLARE repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the GLARE design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which RR-CREATOR chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the GLARE without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
