About the Base station PCB

Base station is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Tinkerbug-Robotics, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 30.3 × 90.5 mm, with 109 components from 52 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3RH2, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the GD25Q128ESIG, TPS61023DRLR, BQ21040DBVR, TPS63020DSJR and MP2672AGD-0000-Z. By type, the board carries 41 capacitors, 36 resistors, 9 ICs, 6 inductors, 4 diodes and 3 transistors.

It belongs with the rf & radio designs in this gallery.

Model rocket flight computer, ground station, iOS app, and simulation

Boards that are no longer part of the product line (see ../README.md), kept whole so that nothing is lost. Each one still opens in KiCad and can still be re-plotted. tools/checkboardparity.py scans this folder too, and passes all but base-station, which it exempts: R13 and R16, the TPS63020 feedback divider, left the schematic in 0f721aa6, and the V6 layout was never synced to match.

Base station: common questions

What microcontroller does the Base station use?

The Base station is built around the ESP32-S3RH2, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Base station PCB?

The Base station measures 30.3 × 90.5 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.5862 mm thick.

How many components are on the Base station?

109 components, from 52 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Base station design files?

From the Tinkerbug-Robotics/TinkerRocket repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Base station design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which Tinkerbug-Robotics chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Base station without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
