Have you ever lost signal during a trip and realised that streaming had quietly become your entire music library?

You can store MP3 files on a phone, of course, but carrying a dedicated music player still feels different.

My girlfriend runs into this problem often, so for our anniversary I decided to build her a one-of-a-kind Tamagotchi-style MP3 player. While listening to music, she will also be able to feed and take care of a little monkey companion.

MP3-Gotchi v2: common questions

What microcontroller does the MP3-Gotchi v2 use?

The MP3-Gotchi v2 is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM, from the ESP32 family.

How many components are on the MP3-Gotchi v2?

141 components, from 57 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MP3-Gotchi v2 design files?

From the Artisfera/MP3-Gotchi-v2 repository on GitHub, which has the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MP3-Gotchi v2 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its AGPL-3.0 license, which Artisfera chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the MP3-Gotchi v2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
