About the Mainboard PCB

Mainboard is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Synthron, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 160 × 100 mm, with 206 components from 48 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-WROOM-32, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the AP1117-33, STM32F407VGTx, USBLC6-2SC6, LM2904 and MAX485E. By type, the board carries 76 resistors, 46 capacitors, 30 transistors, 15 diodes, 14 connectors and 11 test points.

It belongs with the audio and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Modular Electronics Workstation

The ModLab is designed to be housed in a 19" Rack with 3U. It is the improved version of the (failed) Arduino Workstation I built a long time ago.

But now It will be bigger, better and way too complicated.

Mainboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the Mainboard use?

The Mainboard is built around the ESP32-WROOM-32, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Mainboard PCB?

The Mainboard measures 160 × 100 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 2.6062 mm thick.

How many components are on the Mainboard?

206 components, from 48 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Mainboard design files?

From the Synthron/ModLab repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Mainboard design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Synthron. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Mainboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
