From the project

Hardware design monorepo with software-grade CI/CD. KiCad PCB projects with automated ERC/DRC, multi-fab rule validation, schematic & BOM checks, and auto-generated board documentation.

Fully routed 64 × 56 mm, four-layer engineering prototype, revised 2026-09-04. The compact layout is 35.42% smaller than the previous 74 × 75 mm board. The four buttons retain 15 mm spacing and the component-side order VOL− / MODE / VOL+ / BATTERY.

Battery J1 feeds an AO3401A reverse-polarity stage and two TPS63070 buck-boost regulators: 3.307 V for the ESP32-S3/RTC and 4.985 V for the MAX98357A amplifier. GPIO18 enables the audio rail. USB-C is data-only. The RTC, switched OLED bus, wake buttons and common-anode RGB indicator remain.

Esp32s3-devkit-5v: common questions

What microcontroller does the Esp32s3-devkit-5v use?

The Esp32s3-devkit-5v is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N16, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Esp32s3-devkit-5v PCB?

The Esp32s3-devkit-5v measures 64 × 56 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Esp32s3-devkit-5v?

112 components, from 50 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Esp32s3-devkit-5v design files?

From the eshelton328/the-forge repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Esp32s3-devkit-5v design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with eshelton328. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Esp32s3-devkit-5v without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
