About the Solardeck PCB

Solardeck is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by lorecrafting, published on GitHub under the Custom license license. It is a 6-layer board measuring 222 × 160 mm, with 36 components from 34 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2350B, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the BQ25895RTWR, TPS62840DLYR, TPS61088RHLR, TPS63020DSJR and BQ25504RGTR. By type, the board carries 33 ICs, 2 connectors and 1 switch.

It belongs with the power & battery, displays & leds and rf & radio designs in this gallery.

From the project

SolarDeck — sovereign, sunlight-readable 10.3-inch color E-Ink mobile workstation & tactical LifeOps terminal. Open hardware (CERN-OHL-S-2.0), mainline bare-metal Linux, RP2350 co-processor, 30-year design budget.

SolarDeck is a sunlight-readable 10.3″ colour E-Ink tablet workstation you can own outright. It is a mobile terminal, e-reader, sketchpad, weather clock, off-grid LoRa mesh radio, and LifeOps dashboard in one IP67-sealed 620 g slate — all running pure mainline bare-metal Linux on open hardware, with every mode powered by the same underlying machine. Its dual-brain architecture makes the whole idea hold together: an always-on RP2350 co-processor keeps the calendar, reader, and wake-word listening alive for months at 110 µW–15 mW, while the Linux CM4 stays suspended with your exact session hot…

Solardeck: common questions

What microcontroller does the Solardeck use?

The Solardeck is built around the RP2350B, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Solardeck PCB?

The Solardeck measures 222 × 160 mm, has 6 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Solardeck?

36 components, from 34 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Solardeck design files?

From the lorecrafting/solardeck repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Solardeck design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the Solardeck without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
